Reading a 12 × 25 profile
What the SWIMIT report calculates, and why the protocol matters.
Start with the repetitions
The report converts each 25 m time into velocity. Peak speed is the fastest repetition. The test’s operational critical-speed measure is the mean of the two lowest velocities in repetitions 9–12.
Speed decrement expresses the difference between peak and critical speed relative to peak speed. Read it alongside the complete profile: a single percentage cannot show where speed changed across the test.
Make comparisons meaningful
Keep the pool length, stroke, recovery, starting procedure, underwater phase and timing method consistent. Record deviations before comparing assessments.
This test-specific critical-speed measure is not an independent distance–time estimate. SWIMIT’s protocol page documents the calculations and their limits.
From profile to discussion
Use the profile to organise the discussion with the coach. Review the raw times, test conditions and previous assessments before interpreting a change as an adaptation.
